Axis Pharmacy Northwest is a locally owned, independent pharmacy serving patients, providers, and Adult Family Homes throughout Washington State. We operate multiple pharmacy divisions, including Retail, Long-Term Care (LTC), and Compounding, each with dedicated workflows, compliance requirements, and patient populations.
We are known for our strong community relationships, customized medication packaging, and reliable delivery services. We are currently seeking an experienced Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) to provide clinical leadership, ensure regulatory compliance, and support operational excellence across our pharmacy operations.
Position Summary
The Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) is responsible for the overall professional practice, regulatory compliance, and clinical oversight of Axis Pharmacy Northwest. This role ensures that all pharmacy operations comply with federal, state, and accreditation requirements while supporting safe, accurate, and efficient medication dispensing.
The PIC works closely with ownership and management to lead pharmacists, technicians, and support staff, maintain quality assurance programs, and serve as the primary liaison for inspections, audits, and regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
- Serve as Pharmacist in Charge in accordance with Washington State Board of Pharmacy regulations
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and standards, including DEA, DSCSA, HIPAA, CMS, and state and federal pharmacy regulations
- Act as the primary contact for regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance inquiries
- Maintain pharmacy policies, procedures, and documentation required for licensure and accreditation
- Oversee controlled substance compliance, inventory management, recordkeeping, and security
- Lead self-inspections, corrective action plans, and ongoing compliance monitoring
Clinical & Operational Leadership
- Oversee daily pharmacy operations, including prescription verification, DUR review, and clinical decision-making
- Ensure safe, accurate, and timely dispensing practices across Retail and Long-Term Care services
- Support and supervise pharmacists, technicians, and pharmacy support staff
- Collaborate with management to optimize workflow, staffing, and operational efficiency
Quality Assurance & Patient Safety
- Review and respond to medication errors, near misses, and incident reports
- Ensure proper documentation and follow-up for patient safety concerns
- Support best practices for medication storage, labeling, compounding (as applicable), and dispensing
Long-Term Care Support
- Support medication management, compliance packaging, and cycle fills for Adult Family Homes and LTC patients
- Collaborate with staff on eMAR and EHR integration
- Ensure accurate communication with providers, caregivers, and facilities
Collaboration & Communication
- Serve as a clinical and regulatory resource for pharmacy leadership and staff
- Communicate effectively with providers, caregivers, vendors, and agencies
- Stay informed of regulatory changes and ensure timely implementation within the pharmacy
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years prior experience as a Pharmacist; prior experience as a Pharmacist-in-Charge or in pharmacy leadership is highly desirable
- Experience in Long-Term Care pharmacy and/or Compounding Pharmacy
- Strong working knowledge of federal and state pharmacy regulations
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities

Requirements
- PharmD or BS in Pharmacy
- Active Washington State Pharmacist License in good standing
- Eligibility to serve as Pharmacist in Charge under Washington State law
