Position Summary
The Controller is a key member of the management team at Roland Park Place, responsible for overseeing all accounting operations and ensuring the integrity of the organization’s financial functions. This is a highly visible leadership role that works closely with the CFO, CEO, executive team, residents, families, vendors, and external partners.
The Controller provides expertise in accounting, compliance, risk management, and financial reporting while leading and developing a high-performing accounting team. The role requires technical excellence, strategic thinking, and the ability to communicate with compassion and clarity in a resident-centered environment
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
Oversee daily accounting operations, including A/P, A/R, payroll, general ledger, month-end close, and fixed assets
Ensure accurate and timely financial statements in compliance with GAAP
Develop, maintain, and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
Administer financial components of resident agreements, including entrance fees and refunds
Coordinate with auditors, actuaries, attorneys, and other external partners
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
Develop dashboards, KPIs, trend analysis, and benchmarking to support decision-making
Provide ad hoc analysis for leadership and external inquiries
Budgeting & Forecasting
Assist in developing annual budgets and multi-year financial forecasts
Monitor performance, analyze variances, and recommend corrective actions
Collaborate with department leaders to align budgets with organizational goals
Revenue Cycle & Treasury
Oversee billing, collections, and third-party reimbursement (including Medicare)
Optimize accounts receivable and monitor revenue cycle metrics
Support cash flow management, liquidity planning, and debt covenant compliance
Compliance & Risk Management
Assist with audits, regulatory filings, and financial compliance, including:
Annual financial audit and Form 990
Maryland Department of Aging reporting and disclosures
Cost reporting, PBJ reporting, insurance renewals, and benefit plan audits
Leadership & Collaboration
Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture
Serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership
Represent finance in cross-functional initiatives and organizational planning
Requirements
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
Master’s degree or CPA preferred
Experience
7–10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience
Required experience in senior living, healthcare, and/or nonprofit organizations
Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, compliance, and revenue cycle operations
Skills & Attributes

High degree of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
Proficiency with financial systems, software, and MS Office
