Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, invites applications for a Diagnostic Radiologist who specializes in body imaging in the Radiology and Imaging Sciences (RADIS) department. The Clinical Center is a 200-bed hospital that provides care for patients participating in clinical research within the NIH Intramural Research Program (IRP). IRP research includes natural history studies of rare diseases, first-in-human gene therapies, novel cell-based immunotherapies and transplants, and Phase I and Phase II cancer trials. RADIS supports these clinical trials by providing state-of-the-art imaging, expert consultation, and collaborative research.
The successful candidate will be responsible for interpreting diagnostic imaging studies (including radiographs, CTs, MRIs, and ultrasounds), consulting with providers on patient care, and supporting quality control procedures. Nuclear medicine and PET/CT interpretation skills are encouraged but optional. Active participation in tumor boards and clinical research collaborations with surgical subspecialties, infectious disease, critical care, and other clinical services is expected. Opportunities for collaborative and independent research with NIH institute and center investigators are widely available and encouraged.
The NIH Radiology Department maintains state-of-the-art equipment across all modalities, including dual-energy CTs, a photon-counting CT, 7 MRIs, and 2 PET/CTs. Additional clinical experience and research opportunities are available through the PET department's radiopharmaceutical development program and its PET/MR capability. A new hospital tower is also under construction, which will house several expanding clinical departments.
Requirements
Qualifications
Candidates must possess an M.D., D.O., or equivalent medical degree and a current, active, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory. Candidates must also meet the graduate medical training requirements for the grade level of the position.
Board certification or board eligibility in Diagnostic Radiology is required. Preferred candidates will have completed or currently be enrolled in fellowship training in Cross-Sectional Imaging, MRI, and/or Nuclear Medicine.
