Job Description:
The Department of Pediatrics seeks a Nurse Specialist to provide direct patient care and case management for the Pediatric Pulmonology Section. This position will serve as an extension of the physicians, but report to the Nurse Administrator of Clinical Operations. The employee will act independently, be self-motivated, and problem solve tactfully and diplomatically. Additionally, they will be self-directed and utilize critical thinking skills, communicate effectively orally and in writing, possess and demonstrate leadership qualities, and be able to perform many tasks simultaneously. The position will prioritize clinical situations; ensure orders are written and carried out in an expeditious manner; provide nursing input into patient care; and facilitate communication between the specialty and ancillary departments and staff, making appropriate referrals as needed. Independent nursing care will be expected, including administering immunizations, IV therapy, nursing support, technical assistance, assisting physicians with clinic procedures, and the activities of maintaining a safe environment, care standards, and inventory control. The employee will work with a positive approach in a team environment and interact with residents, medical students, nursing students, and other learners on a daily basis to teach procedures and concepts that relate to nursing practice. In addition, the employee serves as an educator for the patient population and other family members regarding preventative health measures, disease, and disease management.Currently, hours of clinic operation are from 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, with a rotating scheduled late day to accommodate patient care.CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION – NOT SUBJECT TO STATE PERSONNEL ACT.The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as it’s teaching hospital, as well as the flagship hospital for ECU Health.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from state-accredited school of registered nursing and two years of nursing experience, with at least one year in the assigned specialty area. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
