The Nurse Practitioner (NP) with the Pediatric Hematology Team is a diverse role supporting patients with various benign blood disorders. The Nurse Practitioner with Pediatric Hematology Team has a role to promote excellence in clinical practice, utilizing a comprehensive knowledge base and an excellent ability to apply it to the clinic setting. The Nurse Practitioner with the Pediatric Hematology Team will also cross cover the KIDCLOT Nurse Practitioner. The Nurse Practitioner will have strong interest in supporting the unique and diverse needs of the patient's support network and seek to minimize the burden of care. Working within the multidisciplinary team, the Nurse Practitioner functions independently and collaboratively with primary physicians, nurses, and Social Work. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager for Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Palliative Care, the Nurse Practitioner will work to advance care in this field with research and clinical best practice. The Nurse Practitioner practices to their full scope of practice including performing procedures such as lumbar punctures, ordering schedule 1 medications, and participating in related research. This is an excellent position for someone interested in continued advancement for the role of the Nurse Practitioner in Pediatrics in Alberta.


The primary responsibility of the Nurse Practitioner with the Pediatric Hematology Team is to provide comprehensive direct patient care to the Pediatric Hematology population in consultation with the Hematologists. This care spans both inpatient and outpatient settings, including clinics, medical day ward, and inpatient care. The Nurse Practitioner is required to perform comprehensive assessments, diagnosis (including ordering and interpretation of test results), interventions (including prescribing of medication), management, referral and evaluation of patient care. The incumbent is expected to provide leadership and participate in program development and evaluation., research and clinical teaching activities. The Nurse Practitioner consistently exercises a leadership role in utilizing best practice.


Current experience in pediatrics preferred.
