Job Summary This position supports the Department Manager in directing, monitoring, and optimizing the daily operations and productivity of the unit. It involves collaboration with hospital personnel, medical staff, and the public to ensure efficient and high-quality patient care. Responsibilities include contributing to budgeting, compliance with standards, policy development, performance improvement initiatives, staff scheduling, and timecard approval. The Assistant Nurse Manager also assumes leadership duties during the Department Manager’s absence and provides both direct and indirect patient care in accordance with the Registered Nurse role. This role involves leadership in clinical, financial, and personnel management.
Responsibilities Essential Functions Oversees unit operations during assigned shifts in the Manager’s absence, ensuring smooth workflow and quality patient care. Ensures appropriate patient assignments based on caseload and staffing levels. Conducts daily rounding on patients and staff to monitor care quality and satisfaction. Promotes patient and employee satisfaction while supporting safety and staff retention. Provides clinical guidance to unit staff and physicians. Coordinates quality initiatives and process improvement activities. Serves as a role model and supports staff development. Assists in employee selection, orientation, onboarding, and retention efforts. Demonstrates leadership through coaching, performance evaluations, corrective actions, and growth opportunities. Assists with operational and capital budget planning and ensures optimal departmental productivity. Performs duties in alignment with established policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines. Consistently demonstrates organizational core values and behaviors to deliver an excellent customer experience. Requirements
Qualifications Experience & Knowledge Minimum 3 years of progressive clinical and management experience. Strong communication, organizational, and change-management abilities. Skilled in human relations, resource management, and clinical leadership. Knowledge of current clinical technologies and medical equipment. Proficiency with computers and related applications. Education BSN preferred; ADN with relevant experience considered. Licenses & Certifications Current RN license. BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.
