Company Overview
Mather is a unique, non-denominational, not-for-profit organization founded in 1941 that is dedicated to creating Ways to Age Well. Headquartered in Evanston, IL, Mather is dedicated to our vision of changing the way society view aging and developing and implementing Ways to Age Well. We create programs, places, and residences for today’s young-at-heart older adults; these include senior living residences with The Mather in Evanston, Mather Place, and Splendido – and The Mather in Tysons opening in early 2024, a variety of community-based initiatives, and Mather Institute, a resource for research and information about aging, trends, and innovations in aging services, and more.
Mather values our team members and is serious about supporting their health and professional development. We’ve been named one of “Chicago’s Top Workplaces" by the Chicago Tribune for four years in a row, have been recognized as Illinois’ Healthiest Midsize Employer, and are certified as a Great Place to Work.
Company History
In 1941, Mather was established as The Mather Foundation by Alonzo Mather, a well-regarded humanitarian, lifelong inventor, and innovative entrepreneur. Alonzo bequeathed his fortune to create a home for “ladies of refinement” who lost their incomes when their husbands passed away. He funded one of the earliest Continuing Care Retirement Communities (now Life Plan Communities) in Evanston, Illinois.
Alonzo’s past fuels our future. Today, Mather remains committed to his spirit of innovation and creating Ways to Age Well for older adults.
