Auburn Homes and Services in Chaska, MN is seeking a creative and compassionate Life Enrichment Intern to join our team. Auburn is a faith-based organization founded by the Moravian Care Ministry in 1928. This internship provides hands-on learning experience in planning, implementing, and facilitating therapeutic recreational and activity-based interventions for older adults living in Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Skilled Nursing Facility.
The intern will work under the direct supervision of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) to support resident engagement, promote social connection, and enhance overall wellness through structured therapeutic activities. Intern would also gain experience working with volunteers and could offer opportunities to support residents' spiritual lives through leading prayer, worship, or devotional activities.
Internship responsibilities and learning experiences align with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) Job Analysis Areas, including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, documentation, and professional responsibility, to support competency development and CTRS credentialing requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in planning, organizing, and facilitating therapeutic group activities (e.g., recreation therapy groups, leisure education, coping skills, social skills, wellness activities).
Support patients in developing healthy leisure skills, coping strategies, and social interaction abilities.
Help create a safe, structured, and inclusive group environment.
Document group participation and patient progress in accordance with facility policies.
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary treatment team, including therapists, nurses, and other clinical staff.
Assist with preparation of materials and activity supplies.
Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to confidentiality and ethical standards (HIPAA compliance)
Requirements
Minimum and Desired Qualifications:
Education-
High school diploma or equivalent.
Pursuing educational requirements through a Recreational Therapy program at a university or college, per National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) standards.
Experience-
Preferred experience leading a group of people in some kind of activity especially in leading music groups such as choir or worship, but not required.
