East Lawn is seeking an ambitious, well-organized, detail-oriented Mortuary Manager to lead our Elk Grove location. This is an important leadership role for a licensed funeral professional who takes the funeral profession, California law, regulatory compliance, and compassionate family service seriously.
The Mortuary Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the funeral home and mortuary team, ensuring that families receive professional, respectful, accurate, and timely service. This position requires a strong leader who can support employees, maintain high service standards, promote accountability, and help protect the positive culture of East Lawn.

Compensation
This position pays a base salary and is eligible for additional variable compensation through overrides and commissions. Estimated total annual compensation is approximately $70,304–$115,000, depending on performance, sales activity, and applicable compensation plan terms.

Key Responsibilities
The Mortuary Manager will:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Elk Grove funeral home and mortuary, including staffing, scheduling, service coordination, facility readiness, and workflow.
- Ensure funeral arrangements, services, visitations, removals, transfers, preparation activities, documentation, and related operational needs are handled professionally and in accordance with East Lawn standards.
- Lead, coach, train, develop, evaluate, and support licensed and non-licensed staff.
- Promote a positive, respectful, accountable, and service-focused work environment.
- Ensure families and guests receive compassionate, accurate, timely, and professional service at all times.
- Maintain strong knowledge of East Lawn’s services, facilities, pricing, procedures, and operational expectations.
- Monitor service delivery and operational performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, innovation, and long-term growth.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, authorizations, contracts, permits, and other required documentation.
- Support compliance with East Lawn policies, California funeral and cemetery regulations, the FTC Funeral Rule, licensing requirements, Cal/OSHA expectations, and other applicable laws and regulations.
- Ensure staff follow required procedures related to pricing disclosures, authorizations, permits, contracts, documentation, handling of human remains, workplace safety, and related operational matters.
- Partner with Human Resources and senior leadership regarding employee relations, performance concerns, staffing needs, policy interpretation, and employment actions.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with families, clergy, vendors, hospice providers, care facilities, community members, and other professional contacts.
- Represent East Lawn with professionalism, integrity, compassion, and respect.
Requirements

Required Qualifications
- Valid California Funeral Director’s License.
- Experience as a Funeral Director, including demonstrated supervisory or management experience.
- Strong understanding of funeral home operations, funeral service procedures, mortuary pricing, and family arrangement processes.
- Strong understanding of applicable funeral and cemetery laws, rules, and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to lead, coach, train, evaluate, and develop employees.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, customer service, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior funeral home or mortuary management experience.
- Experience managing licensed and non-licensed funeral home staff.
- Experience with funeral home software, case management systems, scheduling systems, or related business systems.
- Experience supporting community outreach, marketing, or business-development efforts.

This position may require availability during evenings, weekends, holidays, emergencies, or other times outside regular business hours based on operational and family-service needs.
