- President, St. Peter's Health Medical Group
Description
President, St. Peter’s Health Medical Group
St. Peter’s Health
Helena, MT
The Opportunity:
St. Peter’s Health seeks a seasoned physician executive with demonstrated experience leading a multi-specialty medical group or similarly complex physician enterprise. This is not envisioned as a first-time physician executive role. The ideal candidate will bring the maturity, judgment and credibility to lead an established medical group while developing the next generation of physician and administrative leaders. Experience working in, developing or implementing a physician-administrator dyad model is strongly preferred. Clinical practice is not required; however, a candidate who has practiced recently and wishes to maintain a limited clinical presence may find that experience valuable in maintaining firsthand connection to the realities of practice.
The Position:
The President of St. Peter’s Health Medical Group (SPHMG) serves as a core member of the St. Peter’s Health Executive Leadership Team and provides overall strategic, operational and physician leadership for a rapidly growing, highly integrated medical group of approximately 175–180 physicians and advanced practice providers. The Medical Group has more than doubled in size over the past six years and is a major driver of St. Peter’s Health’s ability to provide high-quality care and access across Helena and the surrounding communities.
This is a pivotal leadership opportunity to build on a strong, community-focused physician culture while advancing the Medical Group to its next stage of maturity. The President will work closely with the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer and physician and administrative leaders to strengthen the Medical Group’s leadership infrastructure, mature its developing dyad model, improve responsiveness and decision-making, and ensure that physicians, advanced practice providers and staff are empowered to lead effectively.
The successful leader will be highly visible and accessible, with a strong bias toward listening, relationship building and collaborative problem solving. The President will balance local autonomy and accountability with the need for greater standardization, operational discipline, access, quality and financial stewardship. The role also provides the opportunity to advance strategic clinical partnerships across Montana while preserving St. Peter’s Health’s local governance, independence and community-centered approach.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Required: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
- Preferred: Completed advanced coursework in administrative medicine/physician leadership and/or a Master’s Degree in a business discipline.
- Board certification in their specialty with at least five years of clinical practice experience and demonstrated senior physician leadership/management experience.
- Current or eligible for Montana medical licensure.
- A respected, board-certified physician executive with significant leadership experience in a multi-specialty medical group, physician enterprise or comparable environment.
- Demonstrated success partnering with administrative leaders and empowering physician leaders through clear decision rights, accountability and shared governance.
- Strong understanding of ambulatory and physician enterprise operations, including access, recruitment, productivity, quality, patient experience, physician compensation and financial performance.
The Organization:
St. Peter's Health is a $370M+ net revenue, independent, nonprofit health care system located in Helena, Montana.
